It's all in the construction
Designed in Germany and constructed in Ireland (name another stereo product you can say that about) they run at around $250 a pair and have a sound pressure of 120 db, which is very loud. But good loud, if you no what I mean. I have seen countless DJs with the Sony MDR V700DJ all taped up because they are poorly made and fall apart at the first sign of a roughing up at the hands of a drunken DJ. The HD 25, on the other hand, rarely break and items that do need to be replaced often (ie, the ear cushion) are available cheaply and can be replaced easily by the user. Even if one of your cups goes our you just pop in a new one.
