THE KODO DRUMMERS

Kodo Drummers
The Kodo Drummers rock the house! I had the privilege of seeing this amazing 13 piece group perform live in Philadelphia in March of 2005.
As a DJ, I enjoy drums a lot. We all do, but I had never heard such powerful drums in my entire life. From the almost infant pitter-patter of their lighter pieces to the rage of the more ferocious moments of the concert I was completely hooked.
Kodo Drummers Press Release
- (Excerpt) From the Kimmel Center, Philadelphia, PA, USA
"Since their debut in 1981 at the Berlin Festival, the Kodo Drummers have continued to cross musical boundaries by combining the ancient art of Japanese taiko drumming with modern age compositional techniques. The ensemble has shared their distinct musical interpretation of this vibrant art form in over 2,700 performances in 42 countries, spanning all five continents. When not touring, the group is rooted on Japans Sado Island, and members of the ensemble travel the globe researching and exploring various world music to bring back to the ensembles home for preparation of new material.
To date, the Kodo Drummers have recorded and/or been featured on 19 albums including their latest DVD/CD combo release entitled One Earth Tour Special, and the Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon motion-picture soundtrack. The ensemble has also collaborated with artists such as jazz drummer Max Roach, composers Michael Kamen and Tan Dun, and percussionists Evelyn Glennie and David Van Tieghan.
