THE EQUIPMENT I USE - RANTS AND RAVES I use Vinyl, CDs, effects units, and the Traktor DJ Studio. Like everyone else I started out with vinyl, swore I'd never turn my back on it, then did once I saw the benefits of the digital world. We are all a bunch of filthy turncoats - no amount of confession can remedy this. But, here we are. When I play out I do so entirely out from my laptop – an Apple Powerbook G4 – running the incredible Traktor DJ Studio program in concert with the Echo Indigo DJ sound card. I don't use a controller, just a mouse. It is the true essence of a plug and play setup and weighs much less than my record boxes used to! I still purchase essential vinyl and own around 2000 vinyl records. I purchase the lions share of my music from Beatport, Stompy, and Bleep. (OK, all the venues here are small and intimate!) I play the entire night on my own as anything else is just a waste of time. With an hour all you can really do is shake the dancefloor. With a 5 hour set you can do so much more – starting out very slow and mellow, gradually pick up the pace to the point that pure fury is raging out of the speakers. Back in the day I arranged all the parties I spun at with my partner in crime Jeffrey Dunaway. Under the name Wodu Productions we had some ferocious events in locations such as a 120+ capacity boat (RockTheBoat), oceanfront mansions (Good Times), Irish pubs, art installations (Art Lights Martellos), and even Ernest Hemingway's house!
