Traktor DJ Studio
The revolutionary Traktor DJ Studio powers every event I spin at these days. Now, I hate the word awesome. As a word it has been done to death but this program deserves a very hearty "fucking awesome!" I was very skeptical when I first heard about this but I have to say I have been converted completely by the possibilities that it creates.
The interface of the program
As one of those "vinyl or nothing" DJs (I wouldn't even touch CDs for a while) even I am surprised by just how much I love this program. On the main screen are two banks that you load your music files into. In the center is the crossfader which is basically the same as on you average mixer but with a few nifty automated features, for example: you set the fader slide over a set amount of seconds. Bass, Mid, and Treble controls are also included and can be used as kill switches as well.
Beat matching and such
When you load a file into the bay it's bpm is automatically calculated and matched to the track that is already playing. Just like with CDs you can bring up the speed without effecting the pitch of the track and you can also bring up the pitch without effecting the tempo.
Using a beat grid
Around 20% of the time Traktor will almost nail a bpm as soon as the track is loaded, but most times you have to go into the file and add a beat grid. Basically you just line up the graphical lines shown above with the waveform of the song using the + and - keys located on the tempo box. This shifts the beat grid along until the waveform of the beat is hitting the lines o the beat grid. Best of all, Traktor remembers your beat grid info.aluminum/copper voice and more.
